JUST IN: Writer Michael J. Hayde Supplies Some Updates

Some Greenbriar questions answered and new info supplied by noted writer/historian Michael J. Hayde, who sent along this rare theatre ad for Paramount's first Superman cartoon, released in 1941. It's the only example to so far surface of a sound short being billed above the feature since GPS put out a request for same in its 6/15/13 post on the topic. Michael wrote a definitive book on Superman's history that delves into the Para animated series and this ad was fruit of his extensive research. He also provided some biographical detail (at left) on seemingly lost silent screen actor John Lowell, referred to in the same article, his obscure feature, Across The Line, having played with higher-billed Bumping Into Broadway, starring Harold Lloyd. Many thanks to Michael Hayde for sharing his info/images with GPS readers, and be sure to check out Chaplin's Vintage Year, a webpage the author has created for updates on his forthcoming book by that title. Chaplin's Vintage Year will be the most complete and detailed study yet of CC's Mutual comedies produced during 1916-17, a group regarded by many to represent his best work.
