Just A Small Announcement

Owing to what I’m told has been excessive posting and obsessive attention to Greenbriar Picture Shows (since when is every waking hour obsessive attention?), we are obliged to modify the killing pace that’s been maintained since day one, and cut back to two or so stories a week as opposed to showing up with something new every time the cock crows. That’s not to say that Greenbriar is closing its doors. By no means. There are several features in the pipeline now, and many more to come. It’s just those silly things like sleep and getting outdoors occasionally that interfere with the really important business of feeding this webpage. Most of my blogging peers, many of whom are listed on the Greenbriar links page, have the good sense to maintain balance along with a high standard of quality in what they contribute, and they’re examples worth following. As for the Monday Glamour Starters, they will continue, though not necessarily on Mondays, and not on a weekly schedule. On the topic of outstanding sites, there’s a new one that has been dazzling me on a near daily basis for several weeks now. Vitaphone Varieties is devoted to the early days of sound, with articles and research that are breathtaking in their detail and erudition. Jeff Cohen is the host, and he’s got info/images I’ve never seen anyplace else. Go there and get some serious film history!

Dang.

Oh well it had to happen sooner or later. I check this website every single day I have access to a pc. I can only imagine the amount of effort it takes to pen such detailed posts on a daily basis, in addition to getting photos and putting it all on the blog. Thanks alot for what you're doing, please believe that it is deeply appreciated by classic movie fans like me. I've learned so many things about old movies here. Thanks again and please enjoy your well deserved rest.

I completely understand- Some weeks life just gets in the way...I have to tell you out of everything that constitutes a regular read- Greenbriar has been the only daily "must read" consistantly on my list. If the change in schedule means continued quality and wonderful posts- I'll be here!

*kissing him on the cheek*

You broke my heart!

On the other hand, one or two posts a week from you is better than hourly posts from just about anybody else.

I'm sure you'll keep up the good work, if not the breakneck pace. For myself, I'll still be checking in every day, if only to stay up-to-date with your excellent commenters.

Now go enjoy yourself!

I was shocked you could keep up the extraordinary work for so as long as you did. When I was on vacation last summer, I went to the nearest library to log on just so I could read the Greenbriar posts I'd missed.

Yikes, this is starting to sound like a eulogy. I look forward to your future posts -- I'll still check in every morning!

Well, this does answer at least one question. I had wondered if you had a full time staff cranking out the wonderful stuff you post here. I post way too much stuff online and yet on the various boards they will often give me a cheery "welcome back Opticalguy … where have you been?" Oy Gottenue and that's without all the original research and the incredibly rare photos.

I hope the more civilized schedule leads to a long life for this blog. Burn out is bad … very bad. More years of this blog … very good.

I wish you luck in striking a more livable balance between online and offline. I've tried to cut back and it's difficult; I'm sure the light behind these screens is pumping out something addictive. Blogs of the standard you've set makes it all the moreso. Enjoy the rest... and maybe some books!

i cannot be as erudite as the previous commenters, each of whom addressed a particular facet, but i agree with them all...but how dare you have a life/stop & smell the roses? will there be a particular schedule we can check back on or shall we just use pot luck? love ya! mean it!

How can you get us so addicted and then so cruelly take away your posts?! Hopefully this at least goes to show how appreciated you are! I hope you keep your archive up and going because that is still a wealth of information that can subsitute the daily posts for a time. Please keep going, you are a rare and valuable find!

Does mean that you are going to write that book?

I've often been astounded by the amount that you produce for your blog, the work and the hours that you have put must be incredible. I find it hard to get one story a month on my blog site. I am going to miss my daily dose of the Greenbriar, but a couple a week or even a month it better than none.

You've been performing above and beyond the call of duty. Every post is a new thrill, but I could see it coming every week or so. Take a breather, yes, get a new schedule, but don't stop.

If I find out that you're blogging less so you can follow the Dave Matthews Band on their winter tour, I'm going to be really really disappointed.

'greenbriar' is a national treasure, and your terrific research and writing make it easily my favorite stop on the web each day. while i can't fault your logic on 'sunlight', and 'having a life' and such, your daily posts will sorely be missed.

still, as the gent above noted, burnout's a bear, and i'll cheerfully take *some* 'greenbriar' over *none* anyday.

allow me to add my heartfelt thanks and congratulations on this most excellent site to those already posted, and hopes for many years to come.

Was it "The Coop" blog that made you decide this?

I miss checking in one day and look what happens!

I'll miss that daily dose, but still look forward to your informative posts.

Surely no-one can begrudge a cut-back considering how seriously you've spoilt us all this past year.

In fact, this way it's better as I won't have to feel so bad when I miss a few days worth of Greenbriar and spend far too long catching up (when I should be working)!

We'll all continue to support your blog John - it's peerless.

I've always enjoyed your posts and insights on classic film. I would rather have you update once or twice a week, than see this great blog dissapear altogether.

John, is this an indication that Santa discovered he has a backlog of Christmas wishes to grant and needs the services of good-hearted helpers to pull his chestnuts from the fire? Your posts are always a welcome present. Thanks for continuing to be so generous with your time, knowledge, and wit.
